Vermont - Day 8
Today is Thursday October 14th and we are leaving the Cape after a wonderful week long experience. As i have already remarked previously, there is so much more color on the trees. Our travel today is to go back into Boston, drop off our car and then continue in one car with Debbie and Dan. We are worried due to weather forecast - it not looking good for leaf peepers.
From Boston we travelled west on highway 2, to the 91 - going north to the town of Brattlesboro and then west on the scenic route 2 to Bennington. The weather held out for us and we saw some of the most amazing colors in the hills. The area is very rural with rolling hills and pasture land. I like it most when there is the contrast of lush green pastures and then the hills in the background covered with trees. Color is everywhere, yellow, gold, orange and the smattering of red. Woven amounts this tapestry of color is the deep green of the evergreens, pines and spruce. I tried to contain my constant remarks on how beautiful it was, but think i failed. At every turn, there was More to see.
Bennington the town was a disappointment, but we did stop at a obelisk monument that was over 300 feet tall. here the color was at its best and breathtaking.
Panic has taken over as we realize that the next 2 days are going to rain, there is huge storm coming in. While Debbie and Dan climbed the obelisk, Jeff and I pondered over maps, used the ipad to view on line maps of fall color. We are rerouting ourselves as my planned path was into areas that the leaves have already dropped. We left Bennington and spent the night in Lebanon (intersection of 89 and 91 highways).
