Adelaide's 1st Birthday Party

With Adeliade turning ONE, Jim and Stephanie threw a big party for family and friends.  It was a combo celebration: Adelaide turning one and an open house for the many people that had not see their transformed home.  The morning started out gloomy, with a few light sprinkes of rain.  Sandra had us on a tight schedule with decorating so we knew we would be ready at 12:30 when guests arrived.
Ken and Louise had come down from Utah for the celebration and the 3 of us spent quite some time in the morning cutting up items for the lunch. They are wonderful people and you can not help but feel better about yourself after you spend some time with them. I never tire of their kindness and genarosity.
It was the Lady Bug Extravaganza, so the color theme was red, black and white. 3 dozen balloons were placed around the front yard and the cute ladybug cut outs were on the front of the house.

Adelaide had NO idea what all the fuss was about, but did enjoy plucking the petals off the flowers. Steph had found the perfect dress to go with the lady bug theme.  Louise made a few slight alterations so it would fit Adelaide.
Uncle Tyler was one of the first to arrive and immediately gave the birthday girl hugs and kisses.
Manning the BBQ, where about 15 pounds of meat and chicken was cooked.  I always have to laugh to myself when Jeff is helping BBQ, he never does it at home, but Jim and he did a fabulous job.

All the fixings for the tacos with fresh watermelon and pineapple.

Adelaide Loves to walk around supporting herself on your fingers.  Here she is walking with Aunty Sandra saying hello to all her guests.....notice the silver shoes.
The pink thing in the background is the bounce house where the older kids spent most of their time.

I loved all the pretty gift wrapping .

Jim's mom, Nanna Wilde
This was a big moment for Adelaide, as of today she has really not had any sugar of any kind.  Stephanie decided that for her birthday only, she could have a cupcake.  What is ironic is that Stephanie is a sugarholic, always has been, but Adelaide has no sugar.
At first Adelaide was not sure what to make of the sweet fluffy frosting, but with a bit of help from Jim, she quickly decided that it was very good.

As she had no idea about the gifts, she enjoyed climbing over the boxes and packages, just as much as sitting with Stephanie making an attempt to help open them.

Sharing a bit of paper with some lucky person.

 Proud Mimi and Grandpa

Adelaide loves her mamma, and often smothers her with these big kisses.

What every party girls does at the end of the day: put that bow in your mouth, giggle like crazy and shake your head back and forth.  She loved playing with the bow.

California girls, gotta have cool shades

Mimi, enough with the camera, come and play with me instead.

It was a beautiful day.  It is always a blessing as a mother when you see how much your children are loved by family and friends.  They had a great turn out, the food was amazing and the house and front yard looked really nice and festive.

Adelaide has blessed our lives in ways I never thought possible.  It has been a year to witness and appreciate the miracle of life, to watch our children make that leap to parenthood.  Maybe that is the miracle that takes my breath away more.  To  see and feel that love that Stephanie and Jim have for Adelaide, to daily watch that love grow, to know there is no place better for my baby grand daughter to be, but home with her mom and dad.
